What is this book about?
A look back at the beginnings of the relationship between Elektra and Daredevil. However, like almost all of the Ultimate books, I can give this to anyone, regardless of their knowledge of these characters and their history. It's an extremely well-crafted and well-illustrated story with spot-on characterization and a riveting cliffhanger. Like others, at first I wasn't quite clear on why this was an Ultimate book, but I'm very glad they decided on this venue.
There are a lot of terrific moments in this book. I love how Elektra's friends are introduced. Immediately I like them, and I can see why they gravitate towards Elektra. There's also a great scene, expertly paced and pure Greg, when Elektra takes her two friends to meet her Sensei and we find out it's a woman. It was a very nice moment and shame on me for not predicting it. Greg is my Sensei. A lot of people say he writes the best female characters in comics, and they're absolutely right.
...And I love a good cliffhanger. The ending is frightening, and leaves me with a real sense of urgency to read the next chapter.
Salvador's artwork has changed somewhat into a more open style than I'm used to seeing from him. Reminds me a bit of Scott Kolins artwork actually, and I'm loving that, so I'm really enjoying this as well. Elektra's features are very specific and captured in every angle and panel. And I love his Foggy. Hilarious.
With the monthly Daredevil and Elektra books, this mini-series and the upcoming film it's a damn good time to be a Daredevil fan.
