"Housecleaning"
One thing about collecting comics: It's a space-intensive hobby. I've been buying comics for over 20 years now, and saving most of them, and as a result, I have a room in my (not huge) house pretty much completely given over to comics. A few years back, I found a solution to the constant encroachment of longboxes upon my personal space by buying more trades, but that still didn't prevent one room in the house basically being given over to the comic books. This is also the room that I use for my office, so as the comics continued to pile up, I began to have less and less room to move. What's worse, because I had so many comics in so many piles, I didn't really reread any of them.
A few weeks back, I finally spent a weekend finding, cataloguing and filing comics. One of the goals of that filing was to find stuff that I had duplicated in trade paperback format or just didn't particularly want to hang onto any more, and the frightening result was that I now have 10 boxes of comics that I need to clear out. Some of them are going to be given away to charity and to friends, but I'm going to be putting a lot of them up on Ebay. Since I figure my readers are comics fans, and might be interested in these comics, I'm going to post links to the Ebay auctions here in this column. This is the stuff I pulled out that I thought folks would be interested in (or at least, the stuff I'm willing to sell), so it'll include stuff like the a run of Transmetropolitan, a big chunk of The Maxx, a big 'ol lot of Excalibur, etc. I'll update this column with links as I post new auctions. Honestly, I'm not looking to make a lot of money here, just hoping to build up some funds for the San Diego trip and hopefully get back a little of the money that I spent in buying a lot of these comics in two formats.
As I update this, there are only five auctions left, each with about eight hours to go. My sincere thanks to all those who have bought items already, you've made my San Diego trip considerably less financially terrifying. I've still got a couple boxes of stuff to sell, so I'll run more auctions when I get back from San Diego.
